How to Remove the Most Common Upholstery Stains
Most home furniture is upholstered. So if you want to maintain a good looking and elegant home, you must learn how to take care of upholstery. You need to know how to clean them and most of all, you must know how to deal with the stains that may come upon your upholstered furniture.
Crayon Stains
This is the most common stain in the house when there are small children. Since they are just learning how to write, they do it anywhere they like. That includes your furniture. Since you cannot watch them every minute of the day, you will mostly be faced with this dilemma.
If water does not easily seep into your upholstery, you can use non gel toothpaste to remove crayon stains. Gently rub the toothpaste on the upholstery and wipe it off with a damp cloth. This will hopefully remove the stains quite easily.
Alternatively, you can also use a solution consisting of a teaspoon of dishwashing liquid and a half cup of warm water. Simply beat the two ingredients to mix them. Use the suds to remove the crayon stains. Be patient and work on a small area at a time. To avoid spotting, try not to overlap. Then to rinse the suds, you can use small amounts of water or a damp cloth.
Coffee Stains
Coffee stains are also very common as they can be spilled on your furniture while you or your family or guests are relaxing or simply using the furniture. If you act immediately, you can actually avoid having the stain. Nevertheless, if a coffee stain has already developed, you can easily use a concoction of water, dishwashing detergent and vinegar. Try not to rub the solution on the upholstery too hard so as not to destroy it. If the coffee stain still does not wear off, you would have to use a dry cleaning solvent.
Greasy Stains
Again it’s quite important to act quickly in order to avoid stains. When it comes to greasy stains, using cornstarch, salt or talcum powder may be the solution. Just sprinkle a little powder on the area where the stain is. Rub it in well but gently. Then let it stay there to absorb the grease. After that you can now brush the stains off and remove the powder as well. To complete the job, use a damp cloth to wipe everything off leaving the upholstery clean and looking new.
Avoid Getting Scammed by Unscrupulous Carpet Cleaning Companies
Scams can occur even when hiring carpet cleaning companies. So, you have to be careful not to fall victim to them. This is not to say that all carpet cleaning companies are doing this bad practice. You just have to be a bit critical in choosing the carpet cleaning company to hire.
Do not just bite on attractive advertisements without examining it. For example, if you see flyers or coupons which offer to clean your carpet at a price of £4.95 per room, this is ridiculously a very low price. You should suspect that this is just a scam right away. No carpet cleaning company can afford to render services at such a very low price. The people who will do the job alone will cost them money. Even the gas for going to your place will also cost them money. If you count other overhead expenses, this low rate just does not make sense.
This means that they would have to recover the expenses in some ways. And mind you, they are going to get it from you. What many will do is impose extra charges on you. For instance, they could impose a room restriction of 100 square feet. If you are not aware, only your closet would fit this size. This is almost saying that you will pay for additional charges for sure. The standard room restriction is between 200 to 300 square feet.
These unscrupulous cleaning companies could also tell you at the last minute that the carpet should have been preconditioned. If not, you would have to pay for a special dual process treatment. Of course, you won’t have much choice by then. Instead of saving a lot on the carpet cleaning, you would end up spending so much more instead.
A reasonable price would be between £80 and £100 per hour. Since an hour of carpet cleaning would cover 600 square feet at average, the usual home average size of 1200 square feet would only take two hours to clean. It should only cost around £160 to £200.
To avoid this scam, you should stay away from such too good to be true offers. Instead of simply availing special offers in coupons and by telephone, you should look for quality service instead. To make sure that you will not be scammed, you should investigate the carpet cleaner you are going to hire. They should be reputable and they should be in business for a long time already. It would even be better if you hire a company that has been recommended by family and friends.
