Proper Cleaning
Always start with a good moisturizing soap. Soaps help preserve the lubricating oils present in leather. However, you must be careful in selecting cleaning products as some may strip the shine off the leather. It is always advisable to do a patch test first to make sure that the solution is safe. Place a soft damp cloth on the soap then gently rub it against the surface. Don't forget to squeeze out excess water before wiping. Dredging the leather with too much water can also cause deterioration.
Caring for Your Leather
Remember to keep the leather away from direct sunlight. The pores of leather are more permeable when they are dry. So, be sure to treat it before it dries out. If it gets stained, wipe it off immediately so the substance won't soak in. You may also use leather conditioners for your leather furniture, bags, shoes and belts in order to boost its shiny features. However, you must understand that these conditioners are not meant for daily use.
You may have heard about other leather cleaning tips, but remember that whatever you do, always stick with the tried and tested methods. Leather is not something you want to experiment on as it is expensive and rare. If you are not sure which products are suitable, ask a professional.
